Go Ahead

After spending 2 weeks in the jungle of Bukit Lawang shooting a commission, I walked my friends to the bus stop for their transfer to Medan airport, and spent the next few hours alone exploring and photographing the neighborhood around the bus station.

I was struck by the architectural choices made here, which seem to favor local and sustainable materials, adapt to the surrounding climate, landscape, and industry, and give equal respect to decoration and utility. “Go Ahead” illustrates some of these homes and structures that I find myself constantly in awe of around the world.
